The State of Mali contracted the criminal Russian Wagner mercenaries for the extermination of the peaceful nomadic Tuareg, Peulh and Arab communities of Azawad, whose only fault is to claim its right to exist on their own ancestral land.

And the world is silent....

That´s why we have this website/blog here.

A Z A W A D

After the military coup in Mali against the legitimate regime, the junta called on Russian mercenaries Wagner, known for their crimes against humanity in all the countries where they intervened: #Syria, #Central African Republic, #Libya, #Ukraine, and finally in #Azawad.

This organization has committed crimes against humanity of an unprecedented scale in the Azawad, Sahel and West Africa region, such as:

- #Beheading of civilians and trapping their bodies: Under the orders of the Malian junta, this terrorist group has killed many civilians in Azawad and beheaded them, as happened in Ersane on October 4 and 5, 2023, in Abanko in April 2024, and in Léré.

- #Cannibalism: Malian forces and Wagner consumed the flesh of many Fulani civilians in the tri-border area (Azawad, Mali, Mauritania), some of whom were filmed by the army itself during the dismemberment and cooking over an open fire.

- #Indiscriminate bombings: The Azawad region witnessed unprecedented bombings, targeting 99% of civilian targets, causing the death of approximately 300 unarmed civilians by the Malian armed forces and Russian Wagner mercenaries.

- #Destruction and burning of homes: Azawad also witnessed the destruction of homes by Malian tanks, aircraft, as well as the booby-trapping and destruction of homes, as happened in several localities in the Timbuktu region in late 2023, including in the vicinity of Goundam, Ber and Koïgama, as well as in Inafarag after the arrival of the Malian army in the region after more than 12 years of absence.

- #Looting of goods: Since 2023, Wagner mercenaries and the Malian army have been carrying out a vast and unprecedented looting operation in Azawad, targeting cars, motorcycles, women's jewelry, their personal belongings and even their clothes...

"The Tuareg people have long been marginalized, isolated, crushed, trampled and one day they said enough is enough. They rebelled to say that they exist and that they must have the same rights as other peoples"

Massacres in silence in Azawad:

The Malian army is carrying out a veritable ethnic cleansing in Azawad with the total indifference of the international community. The Breton people have received several horrific photographs of mutilated corpses in Mali or Niger.

It is not up to our magazine to publish these images, but we can provide testimony...

Every voice counts, every word is important.

We must use all means at our disposal to denounce injustices and fight against totalitarianism.

Let's speak up, let's act, and build a future where every individual can live with dignity and freedom.

Due to the genocide perpetrated by the Malian government and Wagner's mercenaries as well as the use of #Turkish #drones to kill everything from entire families to animals, the indigenous people of Azawad are being forced to flee their lands to search for refuge in various countries which are not their own.

This is a serious threat to their traditional culture, their social values are affected and their existence as a people is threatened.

“We will never forget the silence of the world in the face of our cause”

A voice from the field in #Azawad

How many people know that there is a real genocide going on in Azawad?

And since the 60s... when France ceded the Azawad region to its postcolonial state called Mali, instead of returning it to its original inhabitants?

Today, the Malian coup government, with Wagner mercenaries, Turkish drones and with the support of several other countries and various terrorist groups, is doing everything it can to kill, terrorize and drive out the entire civilian population of Azawad who finds themselves in overcrowded refugee camps. Where people die from lack of water and food.

The situation is catastrophic and the world remains silent.

WHAT IS AZAWAD?

Azawad is an unrecognized state inhabited by the Peulh, Tuareg, Arab (Moors) and Songhai people located in northern Mali in West Africa and which declared its independence on April 6, 2012.

Flag of the State of Azawad.

It was declared by the National Movement for the Liberation of Azawad (MNLA) in 2012 on April 6 after the end of military operations led by Bilal Ag Sharif in its capital, Gao before the intervention of France and the dialogue countries that rejected independence.

The flag symbolizes the homeland, the blood of martyrs and hope for the future.

Under French rule, the Asaouad region was collectively known as "French Sudan".

After gaining independence on January 20, 1960, Azawad was incorporated into Mali despite opposition from indigenous peoples. The inclusion of Azawad in northern Mali led to the first Tuareg rebellion in 1962.

Since the inclusion of Azawad in Mali in 1960, there have been 4 Tuareg rebellions against the Malian government. The Tuareg rebellions were a response to state-sponsored discrimination against Tuaregs, Peuhls and Arabs, as well as heavy-handed Malian military tactics against unarmed civilians.

On April 6, 2012, Azawad officially declared its independence as an independent state!

The #MLNA (#National #Movement for the #Liberation of #Azawad) was founded in October 2011 as a secular and diverse movement for the liberation of Azawad.

There are currently numerous accusations and testimonies that the Malian army is indiscriminately executing civilians, ethnically cleansing Tuareg, Arab and Fulani villages and committing acts of torture and rape.

Azawad is an unrecognized, predominantly Tuareg state but it is not only Touaregs living in Azawad. There are also various people like peuhls, arabs (moors), songhais etc.

The Tuareg people strongly believed that Azawad is their traditional homeland for thousands of years and they blame France for dividing their traditional lands between at least five African states without their authorization”.

(extract from an interview with Akli Sh´kka)

Mali was born in 1960 as an artificial state. Its father was the so-called "French Sudan" and its mother was of course colonial France. Azawad existed long before colonization.

If you don't believe it, just go check the Tifinagh writings on the stones and rocks scattered throughout the Azawad and Azawagh region... they are thousands of years old. They were written by the ancestors of the Tuaregs.

It is time for the Azawdians to get the independence they have long deserved in their territory called Azawad. Because from Mali, they have received nothing but death and oppression since day one, and with Mali, they have nothing in common.

The people of Azawad endure considerable suffering, scattered across neighbouring countries without access to normal life or basic services. Forced to flee violence and insecurity perpetrated against them by terrorists, the Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) and the Wagner group, these populations live in refugee camps or remote areas, often in makeshift shelters.

Access to safe drinking water is extremely limited, exacerbating waterborne diseases. Health services are virtually non-existent, with a shortage of medicines, making care almost inaccessible. Education is also absent, depriving children of their right to education and compromising their future.

These precarious living conditions accentuate the vulnerability and suffering of the Azawadian people, who are struggling to survive in a context of persistent humanitarian crisis.

Human Rights Watch:

Report on Atrocities Against Civilians in Azawad.

Here are excerpts from HRW’s report on abuses by Malian armed forces and the Wagner Group. Read the full report here:

Human Rights Watch Report: Mali: Atrocities against Civilians by the Military and the Wagner Group

Investigations are needed into indiscriminate drone strikes and summary executions.

Mali’s Russian-backed transitional military government is committing horrific abuses. Malian armed forces and foreign fighters from the Wagner Group have unlawfully and summarily killed dozens of civilians in counterinsurgency operations in central and northern Mali since December.

Abuses by Malian Armed Forces and Wagner Group Fighters:

“Everything we choose is bad, wherever we go, it is to face suffering”

“The jihadists are brutal and have imposed their way of being Muslim on us, but the military and Wagner Group fighters, who are supposed to protect us, only kill, loot and burn.”

“The Malian army and Wagner Group fighters have shown deliberate cruelty towards Malian civilians that should be investigated as war crimes”

“We found seven bodies, three of which were completely torn to pieces. »

“On my way back to the village, I saw the body of another man, of Tuareg origin, with a gunshot wound to the head”

“The soldiers and Wagner [fighters] invaded the market, looting shops and shooting people”

“They entered the village on foot towards the market area where they killed at least 21 men and looted motorbikes, shops and money”

“My father was an old man and could not escape”

“The fighters tortured three Fulani herders”

“Their hands were tied, their eyes blindfolded. They were shot, some in the head, before being burned”

“They went door to door and arrested 25 people, including 4 children. Later the same day, villagers found the charred bodies of the 25 people who were arrested"

Gatie Loumo, Mopti region, December 18, 2023.

Since the arrival of the mercenaries of the Wagner group and their auxiliaries from the Malian army, the most horrible massacres targeting the populations and the destruction of vital infrastructure have taken place daily in the territory of Azawad.

Cowardly and indiscriminate drone strikes against civilian targets are mixed with aircraft bombings. Military patrols carry out daily ground sweeps, targeting civilians in their camps or at weekly fairs, leading to deaths, arbitrary arrests, theft of property and even rape.

We must recognize that the consistency of these retrograde practices, from another era, sufficiently proves that the ruling junta is pursuing a policy of extermination of the Azawadian populations under the fallacious label of terrorism, including those who are already terribly victims of it.

The population of Azawad is demanding justice and calling for an independent investigation to shed light on these despicable attacks. Those responsible for these acts must be brought to justice in order to prevent such crimes from happening in the future. The international community and human rights organizations are also called upon to support this quest for justice and strongly condemn these human rights violations.

IGNORANCE IS DEVELOPING IN A REALLY SCARY WAY...

Today we are going through a serious crisis in the distribution of wealth. Multinational corporations control the world. I don't know if shadows or imagination obscure reality from us.

We could probably discuss the subject endlessly. What is clear so far is that we have lost our critical capacity to analyze what is happening in the world. We seem trapped in Plato's cave. We have abdicated our responsibility to think and act.

We have become inert beings, incapable of the anger, refusal to obey, and ability to protest that were powerful characteristics of our recent past. It is time for people to realize the wickedness and triviality of the world. Here are the noble people of Azawad, attacked by enemies from all sides.

A VOICE FROM THE FIELD IN AZAWAD

The population of Azawad is subjected to serious abuses, leading to systematic ethnic cleansing, massive forced displacement and, in short, genocide.

These atrocities are committed by the Malian army, supported by Wagner.

Civilians, caught between the fighting and the oppression of Wagner and the FAMA, are forced to flee their homes to escape the omnipresent violence.

These forced displacements cause humanitarian crises, where thousands of people find themselves homeless, without access to drinking water or health care.

AG PALA

In the picture: They sell dates to help their hungry mothers because their fathers have been murdered, and they now find themselves being in a refugee camp near the Algerian border.

We are a nation that has been divided between the countries of the Maghreb and our land has been stolen from us and we have not yet understood the complicity of the world towards us...

We want our land, enough travel and displacements that make us taste the bitterness of living without a homeland.

A VOICE FROM THE GROUND IN AZAWAD

Genocide is “the deliberate killing of large numbers of people belonging to a specific nation or ethnic group with the intention of destroying that nation or group.”

This is exactly what is happening in Azawad, and the world remains silent.

WHY?

“If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor.”  Sheikh Tanzeem Azmi

MIGRANTS ARE THE FORGOTTEN ORPHANS IN THE SAHARA...

AG PALA

Azawadian refugee population in Tinzawatin. Around 40,000 people have fled for their lives in the face of violence and killings by the Malian army, the Wagner group and sometimes terrorist groups affiliated with the Islamic State.

They are orphans because Famas and Wagner and other terrorists are killing their people in what is called "ethnic cleansing."

Stripped of everything, these refugees live in difficult conditions and face hunger and destitution where the temperature reaches +50C ... Despite the urgency of their situation, they are largely ignored by the international community, which makes their survival even more difficult.

For the sake of the people of Azawad, future generations and their homeland, so that they are not born with "sand in their eyes"... consider lending a helping hand, if you can:

How to help?

“But nothing and no one can defeat those who defend a just cause”

Mano Dayak

"I was born with sand in my eyes"...

(Meaning being born under oppression)

Instead of seeking a political solution, the Malian government chose to respond with violence.

The international community must stand with the people of Azawad and pressure the Malian government to end the violence and begin a genuine dialogue to bring peace and justice to the region.

If we ignore this humanitarian crisis, we contribute to the injustice and oppression suffered by the people of Azawad.

It is truly essential to raise awareness and support the fight for Azawad. Every action, every speech can help advance this important cause. It is crucial to remain engaged and support efforts to promote the rights and recognition of Azawad.

TESTIMONIALS

WHAT CAN WE DO TO SUPPORT THE FIGHT FOR FREEDOM IN AZAWAD?

Here are some steps we can take to support the fight for a free and independent Azawad and to help displaced refugees:

1 - Social networks, read and share articles on what is happening in Azawad, share the link to the Azawad media pages and this blog on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter/X, Tik Tok. Social networks are very important!

2 – Read Assiwil’s blog and others, like this one

3 - Try to find people with similar goals and do something together, whether online, offline or both. We do not all live in the same countries, quite the contrary.

4 - Organize protest marches against the genocide of civilians in Azawad.

5 - Organize information meetings, collect protest lists, involve people, raise awareness.

6 - Contact organizations like Azawad Solidarity and ask if there are collections for refugees who need support.

7 – Contact other organizations like Imohaugh International and see where support is needed.

8 – Write or read a book! Akli Sh*kkah wrote an excellent one... (in English)

9 - Listen to all the desert blues bands, they sing a lot about the suffering of the people of their ancestral land as well as a lot of poetry and nostalgia.

And even if they sing mainly in their mother tongue, Tamacheq, their albums are often translated and through music you will still learn because music is a universal language.

And their music is good!!

"Even the rocks testify that we are owners of the land.  Azawad is our land, and its soil testifies, its rocks testify and its trees testify that we are the bearers of the truth."#AZAWAD

This is the ancient writing of the Tuareg (and amazigh in general) people called Tifinagh. It was written on rocks all around the Azawad region thousands of years ago and today testifies that their ancestors were there long before colonization. It is therefore proof that this land belongs to the Azawadian people.

Tifinagh engraved on the rock, proof of their passages, prescence of desert inhabitants, who do not accept to live dominated.

Tamikrest song "Azawad"

Despite all the oppression and aggression, one day Azawad will be free and independent and belong to its rightful inhabitants who have been there since time immemorial. Who, despite all the oppression are a strong and resilient people.

They are people who have the right to live. #Azawad

Disclaimer: This is not a news webpage, it is a blog. Several people are writing on it and the information here has already been shared on social media and is widely available, if you know where to look. And therefore it`s in the public sphere in the sense that those posts were explicitly posted to be shared by others. In case we do not know, we always ask for permission regarding republishing text and pictures. In our opinion the information about what is happening in Azawad needs to be shared further since the international media is silent or mal-informed. That`s why we share the information here as well. We focus on helping refugees and sharing information about their situation and why they are in their situation is important. We hope to see a peaceful solution regarding the problem between Azawad and Mali, two distincly different nations who should never had been force-married by France. The problems has been ongoing since 64 years. Unfortunately Mali does not want a peaceful solution and therefore the Azawad army keeps fighting for resistance and the freedom of the people of Azawad. Before coloinization and the creation of the artificial borders, the "fences", and the state of Mali, Azawad was free and belonged to its people. It should be returned to them.
